We often contemplate complex themes such as knowledge, destiny, justice, and our place in the world. Western thought emphasizes critical self-reflection as the key to achieving freedom and control over our direction.

Wrestling our complacencies ​

We must protect ourselves from complacency and the influence of those who dictate what we should believe, buy, or look like. On a societal level, falling prey to such ideas can have nightmarish consequences, promising an impossible utopia on Earth.

Questioning societal norms and rejecting conformism helps individuals protect themselves from outside influences and prevent the potential consequences of unrealistic utopian ideals.

The Scientific Method led to modernity and Romanticism as a reaction to its strict focus on reason and logic. However, even Romanticism could not withstand Charles Darwin’s theory of Evolution, which diminished the individual’s significance. As a result, people embraced group identity, leading to the birth of the Nation-State.

Hello, I’m Pedro Braga. I’m a History major at Bridgewater State University with a strong interest towards philosophy, and sociology; I have always held a genuine love and appreciation for these subjects. Exploring the big themes of society, ethics, and religion  has been a personal passion of mine, and I believe that these topics are something we should all be considering.

Through thoughtful reflection and meaningful dialogue, we can gain a deeper understanding of the world around us.
